Our Story

WORDS FROM THE DESK

As the Senior Pastor of this church, I am filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity to share with you my few words. I truly believe that our calling is as followers of Jesus Christ, and we are committed to fulfilling this mission with passion and purpose. We believe that we are called to be servants, to serve our congregation and to serve those who are in need. This is the heart of our ministry, and we are committed to living out this vision in all that we do.

I always remember the words of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who said in Matthew 18:12, “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?”

As we look to the future, we are filled with hope and excitement for what lies ahead. We believe that God has great things in store for our church, and we are eager to see how He will use us to impact the world for His glory. We know that this will require hard work, dedication, and sacrifice, but we are willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill our mission and vision.

So, I invite you to join us on this journey of faith. Whether you are a longtime member of our church or a newcomer, there is a place for you here. We invite you to love, care, and share with us, as we seek to make a difference in the lives of those around us.

May God bless you abundantly, and may His love and grace be with you always.

In Christ,

Puspa Rasaily

[Senior Pastor]

Our story

Toward the end of 2008 and the middle of 2009 was the time when refugee families from Bhutan, who had lived in Nepal for several years, started coming to the US.Rochester, NY, being one of such city that welcomes refugees from around the world, opened up her arms thus opening the doors for thousands of refugees from a new country – Bhutan! These refugee families had all kinds of needs – physical and spiritual.Several humanitarian organizations, such as Catholic Family Center, and Lutheran Family Center, through United Nations Relief organization, were taking care of these Bhutanese refugees’ physical needs, such as providing housing for families, schooling for their children, health needs, etc. These new families needed much more than what was being provided through these agencies. These families need the enlightenment in their heart, and save their life through the savior Lord,Jesus Christ.Being in a new country, these families had no choice but to adopt the new culture and an absolutely brand new way of living!Thankfully, they were also open to adopting the “religion of the land”.This opened up a lot of possibilities of starting Nepali/Bhutanese Christian churches in Rochester, NY. Nepali Community Bible Church is the offshoot of this effort and is one of the earliest, if not the first one, churches that got started in the city of Rochester.
On Sunday, October 17, 2010, we had the joint worship service with the members of First Assembly of God Church at 45 Jones Ave., Rochester, NY 14608!The following Sunday, October 24, 2010 we started our regular morning worship services in the basement of the church.
We had a more stable place to worship on Sundays, Pastor Lal felt it was time to give the church a name, and so, in consultation with the congregation, we named the church: Nepali Community Bible Church or, in short, NCBC!Nepali Community, because the church was composed of Nepalese members; Bible Church, because the church wanted to remain an independent Bible believing church rather than associate with any denomination. After the congregation unanimously approved the name of the church, we opened the bank account in the name of the church; and then, Pastor Gulshan Lal and Mr. Puspa Biswa (who would later become the Senior Pastor of the church), visited the City Hall in Downtown Rochester, and got the church registered with the City of Rochester as a religious entity!
Later on the church got legally registered with the State of New York as well.On Sunday, February 6, 2011 the board of deacons was composed of Mr. Harka Biswa, as the first Chairman, Mr. Rikudhan Biswa, as the first Secretary, Mr. Puspa Biswa, as the first Treasurer, and Mr. Tek Bahadur Biswa, Mr. Padam Biswa, and Mr. Dinesh Lamdage as the first members of the board! In January of 2014, the Board of Deacons approved Pastor Lal’s recommendation for Pastor Puspa to be the next Pastor of NCBC, and then at their Annual General Meeting on Sunday, February 2, 2014, after the church service, the congregation unanimously elected Pastor Puspa Biswa as their Senior Pastor! For Pastor Gulshan Lal this was mission accomplished! That day he stepped down as their pastor and handed over all the books and the responsibility of the church to the people who it really belonged to – the Nepalese!
All the administration and spiritual needs are under the care of Pastor Puspa Rasaily and the members of the church with no outside help of interference! This is the history of Nepali Community Bible Church of Rochester, NY – a story of God’s faithfulness! Note: All the above facts and information about the history of NCBC is provided in a written form by the Senior Pastor Gulshan Lal.Later in the year 2019, the newly formed administrative board decided to change the name of the church and hence the name formed officially as Shekinah Glory Church.
